A win is a win!

Wednesday night's "Back to Basic cyclocross series" started yesterday. It was truly back to Basics. The heavy clouds opened up and started raining about 5PM. The dry dirt/clay quickly turned into slime and puddles and forced everyone to really pay attention to how they were riding.

There were 100 souls that stayed and raced through it all and I have to say that I am proud of all of them. I know many here in Colorado only want to race when the sun is out, but I feel the opposite. I love the cold, the rain, and hopefully the snow.
In Colorado you have a lot of racers who have, what I call, "straight away wattage". These are the people that can't really handle a bike but sure as hell can drop you on a straight. We have a lot of people like that here. What do you expect? We 300 plus days of sun and 400 plus miles of concrete bike trail.
Anyway the race was great. I was smiling the whole time, even when the mud was going in my mouth and eyes. We were the last race of the day, 6:40, 30 seconds behind the category 3 racers.
A great race. I hope it rains every cross race this year. It helps even the playing field and helped me with the first win of the year!
